K-State LGBT Resource Center joins Department of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs

Submitted by Adrian Rodriguez

In the continued vision of Kansas State University to expand multicultural resources, educational initiatives and advocacy for underrepresented communities, the LGBT Resource Center has joined the Department of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs, known as DMSA, in the Division of Student Life.

Brandon Haddock coordinates and administers the many services and initiatives for students, faculty and staff who use the center.

"It is exciting to make this transition to DMSA. Combining our joint resources means we can do more in addressing the needs of our communities served by the center and across the university," Haddock said.

Haddock will work with Debra Bolton in Intercultural Learning and Academic Success with the implementation and development for initiatives to increase campus partnerships and opportunity.

"Dr. Haddock has enjoyed a long history with the center in helping to build and nurture a diverse and inclusive campus community that supports all aspects of the curricular and cocurricular lives of our students, faculty, staff, and community members," Bolton said.

Thomas Lane, vice president for student life and dean of students, is excited about the transition and what it means for our students and the division.

"I am looking forward to the synergy in programs and services offered as a result of Dr. Haddock and the LGBT Resource Center now within the Division of Student Life's Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs area," Lane said. "Dr. Haddock is a steadfast champion for our LGBTQ+ students and I know DMSA will benefit from his commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive K-State experience for all campus community members."

The LGBT Resource Center opened in August 2010 under the Office of Student Life. It has received many awards and accolades, including a five-star campus rating based on the Campus Pride Campus Climate Index. The center will retain its current location in 207 Holton Hall.
