Response to Riley County Police Department announcement on alleged hate crime

Kansas State University thanks the Riley County Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation for their prompt investigation of an alleged hate crime.
The possibility of hate crimes affects the very fabric of everyone's daily lives. Kansas State University acknowledges the anger and pain felt by many in the community when racist pictures and words were posted on social media. Anyone who feels affected should take advantage of the many university resources available through student life, human capital services and counseling services. Kansas State University's first response always will be to look out for the members of the K-State family.
This situation reminds K-Staters again that the responsible path is to gather the facts before we respond publicly. This becomes even more important in an age where inaccurate social media claims are routinely accepted as truthful. The results of this investigation have exposed the facts and allow K-Staters to move forward.
As President Richard Myers recently pledged, the university's efforts to ensure the safety of all campuses will continue. Those who seek to divide will find that the strength of the K-State family and values will bring people together more than ever before.
