Spring 2025 reminder: Schedule your TEVAL before May 9
Submitted by Academic Affairs and Innovation

As stated in the University Handbook, Section C34, student feedback on classroom instruction is an important source of information in the evaluation of teaching effectiveness. Faculty members, including professors, instructors, graduate teaching assistants, adjuncts, etc., shall collect student feedback for each course and section they teach to provide themselves and their departments with information on teaching effectiveness.
Please remember to schedule your online TEVALs this semester. The deadline to create an online TEVAL is May 9. The last day that you can offer TEVALs to students is May 16. After grades have been released, reports can be retrieved by the primary instructor in Canvas.
Faculty members are fully responsible for creating their Online TEVALs. You can sign in to the TEVAL system with your eID and password. You can also access TEVAL from your K-State Canvas profile by clicking on the round image or initials in the upper left-hand corner of your Canvas Dashboard. You will need to authorize Canvas to connect to the Online TEVAL app the first time you access it in Canvas. Please note that the TEVAL link in Canvas is now in your Canvas profile. This is a change from past practices.
The Teaching and Learning Center staff worked with students to produce a video that explains the importance and use of TEVALs, as well as information on how to provide effective feedback for faculty. Please take a few minutes to view this video, and please encourage your students to view it before completing the TEVALs. You may also read about them here and access additional resources.
For increased rates of student participation for in-person instructors, we encourage you to provide some class time for students to fill out their TEVALS. Students may use their phones, tablets or laptops after you step away from the classroom.
Please note that the University Handbook Section C.34 clearly indicates that “student feedback should never be the only source of information about classroom teaching” and that we need to use a “flexible approach to teaching evaluation.” Examples of what to include in portfolio assessments of teaching, in addition to student feedback, are also listed in this section of the handbook.
TLC staff also developed a video to help you set up your TEVALs on Canvas. If you have additional questions, please visit the FAQs page, or reach out to the Teaching and Learning Center at teachingandlearning@k-state.edu or 785-532-7828.
