Fall 2009 - Present (KSIS Student System)

The Office of Management and Budget in 1997 implemented a new set of standards for ethnicity and race classification. In order to comply with the U.S. Department of Education final guidance issued in October 2007 regarding specific changes to the collection and recording of student race and ethnicity for postsecondary education institutions, Kansas State University surveyed each student using a new two-question format. Both new and continuing students were surveyed starting with the Fall 2009 enrollment.

Collection and reporting of Ethnicity Data AND Citizenship is = USA

  • If question one is answered 'Yes, I am Hispanic or Latino', the student will be reported as "HISPANIC" regardless of additional race(s) selected in question 2.
  • If question one is answered 'No, I am not Hispanic or Latino', and no additional race(s) are selected, the student will be reported as if there is no ethnicity information in KSIS and the student is presented with a blank survey and they choose not to select any values, the student will be reported as "NOTSPEC" (Not Specified)
  • If there is no ethnicity information in KSIS and the student is presented with a blank survey and they choose not so select any values, the student will be reported as "NOTSPEC" (Not Specified)
  • If question one is answered 'No, I am not Hispanic or Latino', and one race is selected in question 2, the student will be reported as the selected race:
