Dress Code

Effective June 1, 2015

The Office of the Registrar is one of the most visible offices on campus. As such, staff should dress in a way that will positively and professionally portray the office. The Office of the Registrar has adopted an Office of the Registrar Business Casual dress code for Monday-Thursday and Casual K-State dress code for Friday. This dress code applies to all unclassified and university support staff.

Supervisors are expected to discuss dress code with their staff. No dress code policy can cover all contingencies. If you experience uncertainty about acceptable clothing for work in the Office of the Registrar, please ask your supervisor.

Office of the Registrar Business Casual

Appropriate clothing is less formal than professional business attire (business suits) but is still intended to give a businesslike impression to clients. There are many websites that give general examples of Business Casual type clothing. Specific items that have been designated as NOT appropriate for Office of the Registrar Business Casual include:

  • Jeans (Monday - Thursday)
  • Sweatpants/sweatshirts
  • Any clothing that is torn or frayed
  • Any clothing with potentially offensive words, non-university logos/advertising, pictures, cartoons, or slogans.
  • Workout clothing
  • Shorts
  • Spaghetti strap tank tops (unless worn under some other piece of clothing)
  • Brightly-colored/white/high contrast athletic shoes that do not blend with the Office of the Registrar Business Casual dress code (Monday - Thursday)
  • Hats/Visors
  • Rubber flip flops Flip flop

Casual K-State

Fridays have been designated as Casual K-State Friday. Acceptable attire includes neat and appropriate jeans with either a K-State shirt/sweatshirt or a purple shirt/sweatshirt. Tennis shoes may be worn on Fridays. From time to time, business meetings or other events occurring on Friday may require an employee to dress in the standard Office of the Registrar Business Casual on a Friday. Employees are expected to use good judgment regarding this matter.

Special Situations

With supervisor approval, there may be differences in office attire due to special situations including documented medical restrictions.

  • Effective June 1, 2015: Policy re-written
  • Effective July 2009: Policy modified.
  • Effective July 2006: It was approved that on Casual Fridays, clean and in good condition, tennis shoes could be worn.
  • Effective February, 2005: It was approved that Fridays are dress down days. Appropriate dress is nice jeans with any KSU shirt or sweatshirt or any appropriate shirt you would wear with dress slacks. Shirts with logos other than KSU are not allowed.
