Integrating Health and Well-being University Wide
At K-State, health and well-being is embedded into everything we do. It’s not just a feel-good priority: it’s central to being a next-generation land-grant university.
That’s because the links between student success and their well-being are increasingly clear.
Students do better in their classes, in reaching their academic and career goals, when they are able to focus on their physical, mental and financial wellness. And K-State’s Student Well-being is the driving force behind university-wide initiatives to make holistic well-being accessible for all students—no matter what care might look like.
Comprehensive health and well-being support gets students back on track
Lafene Health Center and Lafene Counseling and Psychological Services are two of the core components of Student Well-being. Together, they support K-State’s commitment to student success by providing integrated medical, mental health, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and wellness services designed to keep students healthy, engaged, and thriving both inside and outside the classroom.
The center embraces partnerships and innovation to provide quality, cost-effective and convenient care to students, faculty and staff. As a result, K-State offers a suite of health and well-being tools. Highlights from FY26 include:
Collaboration
Continued collaboration with K-State Athletics to support the health of student athletes. Thanks to Lafene's three sports medicine physicians and the partnership, K-State is invested in student athletes and the broader student population.
24/7 Care
Beginning Spring 2026, Lafene partnered with TimelyCare to expand access to virtual medical and mental health support for students, anytime and anywhere. To date, nearly 500 students have registered for the platform, with utilization exceeding initial projections and demonstrating strong student engagement with flexible care options.
New Biofeedback
CAPS introduced biofeedback services, providing students with evidence-based tools to support stress management, emotional regulation, sleep improvement, and resilience.

Building the foundation for life-long financial wellness
Well-being extends beyond a person’s physical or mental health. Financial literacy is a lifelong skill that impacts all aspects of one’s life. But money and finances are a significant source of stress for Wildcats.
Powercat Financial is taking steps to improve financial know-how among all K-Staters and beyond.
Through one-on-one peer financial counseling sessions and classroom presentations, the office is supporting students in understanding their finances and preparing for the future. In the past year alone, peer counselors held over 1,939 sessions, gave 147 classroom presentations to 5,293 students, and helped develop over 293 education financial plans.
Another way to look at it?
In 2025, 40% of K-State students engaged in peer financial counseling or financial workshops in the classroom.
Well-being in Action
Powercat Financial supports thousands of students annually.
- In Spring 2026, 1,481 students registered with SAC (the highest number ever!)
- In Fall 2025, students registered with the SAC requested 3,943 letters of accomodation (the highest ever!)
