Congratulations
to Prof. Ryszard Jankowiak!

Prof. Ryszard Jankowiak is the recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Senior Scientist Award from Kansas State University’s Sigma Xi chapter. Ryszard is recognized internationally for his work in several areas, including hole-burning spectroscopy, chemical carcinogenesis, and detailed studies of excitation and energy transfer in photosynthetic antenna complexes and reaction centers.

Ryszard is part of a team of researchers that has devised a product, Preventium™, that mitigates the breakdown of estrogen into metabolites that form adducts with DNA: such estrogenic adducts have been correlated strongly with the development of breast cancers.

In addition to his research expertise, Ryszard is active in outreach activities designed to promote scientific careers to high school students: under his leadership, the Department’s third annual High School Chemistry Symposium attracted 100 high school students and teachers to K-State in April.

Congratulations, Ryszard!
