Accounting department scholarship gala to award more than $433,000

Submitted by Amy Hageman

The K-State accounting department will host its 2023 Scholarship and Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 2, which will recognize more than $433,000 in scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year.

In all, 177 students will receive at least one scholarship at the event.

"The generosity and support of our donors and supporters is truly amazing," said Brett Wilkinson, department head of accounting. "We have a vibrant program, and the future is bright for K-State accounting. We are indeed fortunate to have such incredible alumni and friends partnering with us to ensure the success of our program. Their generosity enables us to offer the highest number of scholarships in the entire College of Business Administration."

The Accounting Scholarship and Awards Gala is possible due to the generous support from a multitude of sponsors and donors, including AGH, BNSF Railway, CBIZ, ConocoPhillips, Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton, FORVIS, Kiewit, Koch Industries, KPMG, Myers and Stauffer, Pinion, PwC, UHY, and Wendling Noe Nelson & Johnson. Support is also provided from the K-State accounting department, Beta Alpha Psi, and the Herbel Accounting Academy.

In addition to scholarships, the gala will also induct Mark Lacy into the Kansas State University Department of Accounting Hall of Fame. This recognition annually honors an outstanding accounting alumnus or alumna who is making an impact in business, government, or academia.

Lacy is currently a lead client service partner at accounting firm Deloitte. Lacy has more than 30 years of public accounting experience, focusing on serving large, complex clients in the retail, restaurant, service, and process and industrial products industries. He has worked closely with numerous clients on a variety of complex SEC reporting and technical accounting matters.

From 2013 to 2019, Lacy served as partner in charge of Deloitte’s Kansas City audit practice and was the central region’s deployment partner, with responsibility for coordinating the right resources for the largest and most complex client engagements across the region.
