Electric vehicle charging station price structure update

Submitted by Derek Clements

Effective April 1, Evergy will update the pricing structure for the electric vehicle charging station in lot D1, near Memorial Stadium.

Pricing will remain at $0.14 per kilowatt hour, plus applicable taxes and fees; however, when vehicle charging ends, users will be granted a 2-hour grace period to move their vehicle before a $4 per hour fee is charged via the Chargepoint app.

Electric vehicle adoption rates have significantly increased in recent years. The new pricing structure will encourage users to move their vehicles when charging is complete, allowing more users to utilize the charging stations.

As a reminder, Parking Services is using license plate recognition technology for parking permit enforcement. Vehicles should pull forward into the charging station stalls. Users needing to back into the stalls to charge should purchase a front license plate from the Parking Services office for $6. Only electric vehicles actively charging will be allowed to park in the charging station spots.
