Attend National Public Health Week Lunch and Learn Lecture April 4

Submitted by Theresa Quintana

The Comprehensive Public Health Group, a departmental student organization in the College of Veterinary medicine, invites students and faculty to attend a Lunch and Learn Lecture featuring Nicole Sage and Chad Gurdgiel from Prevention Point.

The lecture will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the Big 12 Room of the K-State Student Union in celebration of National Public Health Week

Prevention Point is an example of community leaders acting as health leaders. Prevention Point, located in the heart of the Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a public health and social services nonprofit that promotes health, empowerment and safety for communities affected by drug use and poverty. Utilizing a harm reduction-based approach, they offer a broad range of medical and social services, connecting people with various resources to help them reach their self-defined goals.

Sage is the director of prevention services at Prevention Point, responsible for the direct management of the Prevention Services Department, integrating all of prevention-related services, including the Syringe Services Program and the Overdose Prevention Program. Sage ensures that nearly 25,000 unique and unduplicated individuals receive harm reduction supplies, harm reduction education, overdose prevention education and naloxone, navigation to HIV and Hepatitis C testing, substance use assessment and treatment referral, PrEP and Hepatitis C treatment, and identification and survival resources.

Gurdgiel is a licensed social worker in Pennsylvania and the medical social work coordinator for Prevention Point Philadelphia. Gurdgiel's role spans medical and behavioral health services, directing Prevention Point’s Medication Assisted Treatment. Gurdgiel is a consultant for Hepatitis C treatment and navigation throughout the agency.

Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. Please register online or via the QR code on the announcement.
