Kansas Legislature convenes Jan. 9

The Kansas Legislature will convene at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at the Kansas State Capitol. 

The governor and all newly elected state officials will be sworn in at noon on Jan. 9 on the south lawn of the Kansas State Capitol.

Also in the first week of the Kansas Legislature meeting, Gov. Laura Kelly will deliver the State of the State Address in person in the Kansas House of Representatives on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The address can be found on the Kansas Legislature's YouTube channel. In addition to the State of the State Address, Gov. Kelly will release budget details for fiscal year 2023, 2024 and years beyond.

On Thursday, Jan. 12, the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in a joint meeting. The governor's budget director will deliver the details for fiscal years 2023, 2024 and years beyond.

The House Higher Education Budget Committee will have a budget informational hearing on all higher education budget issues at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12. 

The Kansas Legislature will provide virtual access to committee meetings and floor action throughout the 2023 legislative session. Links to access the meetings can be found at kslegislature.org/li/.

The Office of Government Relations will again provide weekly Legislative Review Sessions through the remainder of the Legislative session, which is scheduled to adjourn in early May. The sessions will be presented in person from noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays in Room 224 of the K-State Student Union.
