Save the dates for spring 2023 events

The K-State College of Agriculture, K-State Research and Extension Diversity Programs Office and K-State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences, or MANRRS, chapter have an eventful spring 2023 semester planned. Save the dates and join for these upcoming events.

Jan. 11 — the Diversity Programs Office and College of Agriculture will host the Missouri Department of Conservation as they facilitate a faculty and staff professional development workshop that will highlight strategies for diversity and inclusion success. Join us for the workshop and refreshments. Thank you to the Missouri Department of Conservation for facilitating this session. The session is open to all, but please RSVP.

Jan. 23 — the Diversity Programs Office, K-State MANRRS chapter and Kansas Soybean are partnering to host the 19th annual Diversity Student Leader Reception to kick off the universitywide Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Week hosted through the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs. The seminar will feature Lorenza Lockett, K-State assistant professor for social work, speaking on "The Importance of Dr. MLK's Dream Today." Thank you to Kansas Soybean for sponsoring this event.

Jan. 25 — K-State MANRRS will host its first meeting of 2023. The meeting will feature a previous Project IMPACT scholar and current representative for Hormel Foods to give a final push for internship and job opportunities. Join us to hear from Hormel and learn about all the upcoming activities that K-State MANRRS has planned for the spring semester. Food will be provided.

Feb. 8 — K-State MANRRS will host the Dairy Farmers of America during their general body meeting at 6 p.m. in 137 Waters Hall. Attend the K-State MANRRS business meeting, learn about Dairy Farmers of America and celebrate the birthday of Lonnie Hobbs Jr., MANRRS co-advisor. Thank you to Dairy Farmers of America for sponsoring this meeting. 

Feb. 16 — the Diversity Programs Office will partner with the K-State Black Faculty and Staff Alliance and the Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies to host the 2023 annual Boyer/Switzer Lecture. This year's lecture will feature Bernard Harris Jr., retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, as he speaks about "Resistance to Power: The Education and Training of Seven African American U.S. Army Officers for World War I and its Aftermath." Thank you to the Dow Center for sponsoring this event.

Feb. 20-24 — K-State MANRRS will celebrate its spring 2023 MANRRS Week. The week will feature fundraisers, events and philanthropy to raise awareness about MANRRS.

Feb. 22 — the Diversity Programs Office will partner with K-State MANRRS and Scoular to host the 2023 Wallace Ray Kidd Diversity Award Reception. Join us as the 2023 award recipients are recognized for their contributions to diversity and inclusion in the College of Agriculture. Thank you to Scoular for sponsoring this event.

Feb. 28 — the Diversity Programs Office will host the spring 2023 "Growing our Mindset" Diversity Forum. This semester's forum will feature Lauren Brewer. Brewer is a previous K-State MANRRS officer and a graduate of the K-State grain science department with a master's in grain science and a doctorate in cereal chemistry. She is currently a member of the College of Agriculture Dean's Advisory Board and serves as the manager of research and development at General Mills, Inc. Join us as Brewer leads a conversation about the importance of diversity in the workplace.
