Register now for summer, fall Online Course Design Institutes

Submitted by Ashley Nietfeld

Global Campus, K-State Salina and the Teaching and Learning Center are offering the Online Course Design Institute at no cost, but limited seats are available. Faculty and graduate students can register online for either the summer or fall offering.

The institute provides a five-week course-preparation experience May 31-July 1 and Sept. 6-Oct. 7 for K-State faculty and graduate students who are currently teaching or plan to develop an online course in the next year. The institute will be offered completely online with some synchronous components to provide participants the opportunity to experience the distance learner’s perspective.

Learners engage in five modules. Participants completing all requirements will earn a certificate of completion. Through each module, we will explore elements of effective course design in online teaching:

  • Module 1: Teaching Persona, Philosophy and Practice.
  • Module 2: Fundamentals of Online Teaching and Learning.
  • Module 3: Tools for Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning.
  • Module 4: Student Success in Online Teaching and Learning.
  • Module 5: Assessment in Online Teaching and Learning.

Basic knowledge of Canvas is required. If you need Canvas training prior to the institute or have any questions about the program, please contact Trina McCarty, instructional designer at Global Campus, or Lisa Shappee, director for instructional design and faculty support at K-State Salina. Those interested in attending can register online for the appropriate session.
