Legislative Update

The Kansas Legislature convened at the State Capitol at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10.

In the first week of the Kansas Legislature meeting, Gov. Laura Kelly will deliver the State of the State Address in person in the Kansas House of Representatives at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The address can be found on the Kansas Legislature YouTube site and will be broadcast live on KTWU Topeka. In addition to the State of the State Address, Gov. Kelly will release budget details for fiscal years 2022, 2023 and beyond.

On Wednesday, Jan. 12, the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in a joint meeting. The governor's budget director will deliver the details for fiscal years 2022, 2023 and years beyond.

The House Higher Education Budget Committee will hold a budget informational hearing on all higher education budget issues at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Also, this week the Senate Federal and State Affairs will hold an informational briefing on sports betting. The meeting is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

The Kansas Legislature will provide virtual access to committee meetings and floor action throughout the 2022 legislative session. Links to access the meetings can be found at kslegislature.org/li/.

The Office of Government Relations will again provide weekly Legislative Updates through the remainder of the Legislative session, which is scheduled to adjourn in early May. The updates will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays in person and by Zoom.

  • March 11 — Hale Library, Room 181.
  • March 18 — K-State Student Union, Flint Hills Room.
  • March 25 — K-State Student Union, Flint Hills Room.
  • April 1 — K-State Student Union, Flint Hills Room.
  • April 8 — K-State Student Union, Flint Hills Room.
