Making their mark: 13 distinguished alumni participate in Alumni Fellows Week

Distinguished Kansas State University alumni will address students and faculty in 65 classes and receptions Feb. 20-22 during the 2013 Alumni Fellows Week.

Alumni fellows return to discuss current business and industry trends and to meet informally with students and faculty. The program is sponsored by the K-State Alumni Association, the president's office and the Deans Council.

The fellows were chosen based on their high levels of professional accomplishment and distinguished service in their respective careers, said Andrea Bryant Gladin, director of alumni programs for the K-State Alumni Association and organizer of Alumni Fellows Week.

The 2013 Alumni Fellows are:

* Dana J. Peterson, former chief executive officer, National Association of Wheat Growers, Washington, D.C., for the College of Agriculture. Peterson earned degrees from K-State in 1998 and 2000.

* William B. Livingston, chairman, GLMV Architecture Inc., Wichita, for the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. Livingston graduated from K-State in 1965.

* Patricia Solís, director of outreach and strategic initiatives, Association of American Geographers, Washington, D.C., for the College of Arts and Sciences. Solís earned degrees from K-State in 1994 and 1996.

* James N. Haymaker, retired management consultant, Cargill Inc., Edina, Minn., for the College of Arts and Sciences. Haymaker earned degrees from K-State in 1969.

* Barry E. Robinson, Tax Markets Leader-Europe, Middle East, India and Africa, Ernst & Young, London, United Kingdom, for the College of Business Administration. Robinson earned degrees from K-State in 1980 and 1981.

* Brig. Gen. Mark R. Stammer, Joint Task Force-North, United States Northern Command, Fort Bliss, Texas, for the Division of Continuing Education. Stammer earned a degree from K-State in 1999.

* Curt Brungardt and Christie Brungardt, for the College of Education. Curt Brungardt is the Voss distinguished professor of leadership studies at Fort Hays State University, Hays. He earned a degree from K-State in 1997. Christie Brungardt is assistant professor of leadership studies at Fort Hays State University. She earned a degree from K-State in 2009.

* Cindy L. Wallis-Lage, president, Global Water Business, Black & Veatch, Kansas City, Mo., for the College of Engineering. Wallis-Lage graduated from K-State in 1985.

* John Ruffin, director, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, Bethesda, Md., for the Graduate School. Ruffin earned a degree from K-State in 1971.

* Dr. Elizabeth Purcell-Keith, Medical Family Therapist, Medical City and Medical City Children’s Hospital, Dallas, Texas, for the College of Human Ecology. Purcell-Keith earned degrees from K-State in 1974, 1975 and 1979.

* Joshua J. Brungardt, director of unmanned systems, n-Link Corporation, Bend, Ore., for the College of Technology and Aviation. Brungardt earned degrees from K-State in 2002.

* Terry F. McElwain, professor, College of Veterinary Medicine, Washington State University, Pullman, Wash., for the College of Veterinary Medicine. McElwain earned degrees from K-State in 1978 and 1980.
