FERPA Self-Assessment 2018-2019

Submitted by Susan Cooper

The 2018-2019 FERPA Self-Assessment will be distributed to faculty and staff with access to student data between Sept. 4 and Sept. 7. The assessment will be sent via email from the Qualtrics survey system, which is widely used at K-State. Please note that the link sent via this email is designated specifically for the individual recipient of the email and should not be forwarded.

Knowledge of FERPA is required for those employees accessing student data as part of their work duties. Since FERPA is a federal law applicable to most educational institutions, it is in the best interests of faculty and staff to be aware of situations that can have FERPA implications. The Office of the Registrar website contains valuable information on FERPA in both the student and faculty/staff areas.

The assessment is not scored. Satisfactory completion is measured by answering all questions. The correct answers with some explanation serve as a form of FERPA training. Completion of the FERPA Self-Assessment will be recorded in the Training Summary area of HRIS. Reminders will be sent out periodically during the 2018-2019 academic year until the assessment has been completed.

Contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@k-state.edu with any questions.
