Celebrate research administrators Sept. 25

Submitted by Karen Burg

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Anyone who has engaged in sponsored research knows that budget, proposal, contract negotiation and regulatory processes can seem labyrinthine. Research administrators help scholars navigate these areas so they can focus their energies on research, scholarly and creative activities and discovery, or RSCAD. They also protect our institution and ensure that we spend our research dollars wisely. Simply put, their services are invaluable to K-State RSCAD.

It's fitting, then, that the National Council of University Research Administrators has declared Sept. 25 National Research Administrator Day. Several colleges and units around campus employ research administrators. In addition, we are lucky to have a staff of experts in PreAward Services and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs who stand ready to serve researchers. All these people do high-pressure work on tight deadlines. They often work long hours to make sure proposals and all accompanying materials are submitted and that K-State researchers are in a position to compete for awards. After we win awards, they make sure we're following the rules.

Please join me in thanking K-State research administrators on Sept. 25. I know some units are planning individual celebrations. Please snap some photos and post on social media with a #ResearchAdministratorDay hashtag and copy @KState_RSCAD on Twitter.

Best,

Karen J.L. Burg
