3-3 The primary role
The role of the father is not just to be a provider or someone to share the workload. Any man or woman could do that. The primary role of the father is to have a relationship with his baby that nurtures the child emotionally and physically. No man, regardless of how wonderful he might be can replace a child’s father. Grandfathers can come close, but even they cannot fill the gap completely.

For more information about your critical role as a father, visit the National Center for Fathering website. If you would like to see evidence of your importance take a look at The Consequences of Fatherlessness and The Effects of FatherFULLness (both links open to new windows)

The issue here is: can you accept the fact that you will be a critical part your child’s life for the rest of both of your lives?
