Core idea 5
Becoming a father is easy; being a father is hard
The word “father” can be a noun. It can also be a verb. Becoming a father is the easy part. Just get a woman pregnant and contribute the necessary DNA. All children have a father. Being a father is the difficult part. That means being there for the child, getting up in the middle of the night when the child is sick, showing up and cheering them on in sporting events, hugging them when they are sad. In other words, being a father is something we do that is active, not passive. Not all children have a father who fathers.
