'Lost Inside: Understanding Attitudes About Migrant Deaths on the U.S.-Mexico Border'
The political science department, part of the College of Arts and Sciences, will host Bradford Jones, professor of political science at the University of California, Davis, for the research talk "Lost Inside: Understanding Attitudes About Migrant Deaths on the U.S.-Mexico Border." The talk is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Sept. 11, in 301 Calvin Hall.
Jones' research encompasses the domains of race and ethnic politics, of Latinx politics in particular. His work addresses questions on how Latina/os "see," interpret and cope with stereotyping and discrimination. Specifically, his interest is with questions related to Latina/o identity and their beliefs about discrimination as well as non-Latino perceptions of Latinos and Latino-relevant public policy, such as U.S. immigration. His work has been published in journals such as the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of Politics, among other outlets. Additionally, Jones has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Sacramento Bee, USA Today, the Washington Post and other domestic and international media outlets on the immigration issue.
Whether students seek to enter the workforce or pursue graduate studies, the need to understand and navigate political processes and interact with the government are essential skills.
