Reminder: Complete Office of Institutional Equity training by April 24

The Office of Institutional Equity, or OIE, training on the university's Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Harassment and Procedure for Reviewing Complaints, PPM 3010, is due April 24. The Office of Institutional Equity will be in contact with supervisors of employees who do not complete the training by April 24. 

Kansas State University is dedicated to maintaining a safe and inclusive campus community for all students, faculty and staff. To support this goal, the university is launching a new biennial training program to educate the K-State community about the university's policy prohibiting discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment, PPM 3010.

The training was approved as an employment requirement through the President's Cabinet and works to meet federal requirements under Title VI, Title VII and Title IX of the federal civil rights laws, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age and other protected classes. The purpose of this training is to provide all K-State employees with a clear understanding of what constitutes discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment and how to respond appropriately if they experience or witness such behavior.

The training will cover a wide range of topics related to discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment, including:

  1. Definitions of discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment.
  2. The university's policy prohibiting these behaviors.
  3. The rights and responsibilities of all members of the K-State community.
  4. The processes for reporting and investigating complaints of discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment.
  5. Resources and support available for those who experience or witness these behaviors.

The training is available online and can be accessed through a link that was provided in an email to all faculty and staff. The training is designed to be completed in approximately 30 minutes and is available in a self-paced format.

Failure to complete the training in this time frame may result in the loss of access to K-State systems that require an eID. Supervisors of staff members without access to a workstation will need to work with employees to provide a station for completing the training if requested by an employee. The Office of Institutional Equity will also be available to assist with solutions or provide a workstation by appointment.

The university is committed to creating a safe and inclusive campus community for all members, and the new biennial training is an important step in achieving that goal. By participating in this training, all K-State employees will have a clear understanding of their role in promoting a respectful and inclusive community.
