College of Business Administration Dean Kevin Gwinner recently announced the recipients of the college's spring 2023 awards, as recommended by the College of Business Administration, or CBA, Recognition and Awards Committee.

Kevin Moodie, senior academic advisor, was the recipient of the college's Advising Excellence Award. His nomination states, "As a professional academic advisor for the college, Mr. Moodie had more than 1,000 appointments with more than 400 distinct students in 2022. During this time, he fulfilled his mission as an academic advisor in an exemplary way, which is evidenced by being one of the most utilized advisors on the team. His high student evaluation score and comments from the university's advisor survey and CBA's senior survey testify that he has a unique way of connecting with students from diverse backgrounds by creating an atmosphere where students feel safe to share their goals, successes, and struggles. His efforts have made a difference for many students in helping them shape their academic success. Mr. Moodie also has engaged in many other advising support activities, such as leading in the enhancements of business orientation materials and revising numerous advising resources for the team. He was instrumental in providing support for new student advisors in 2022, with many transitions in staff members. Mr. Moodie consistently demonstrates excellence in student advising and support activities."

Rachel Mui, assistant professor of management, is the recipient of the college's Teaching Excellence Award. According to her nomination, "Dr. Mui has done an excellent job teaching in the classroom and has also worked tirelessly with numerous students outside of class. She has been instrumental in developing several key courses for the CBA. Specifically, she led the redesign of the Business Innovation and the Entrepreneurial Mindset course, which is generally recommended to be the first course that students take upon entry into the CBA. In terms of student feedback, she receives rave reviews across the board, and students find her to be engaging, knowledgeable, conscientious, and helpful outside the classroom. In the Entrepreneurial Consulting course, she works directly with students who are performing short-term consulting projects with local businesses during the summer. She has built exceptional relationships with her students, starting them on a positive path to academic success in the college."

The college's Developing Scholar Research Award is being awarded to Holly Loncarich, assistant professor of management. Her nomination states, "Dr. Loncarich joined K-State in 2021 and in 2022 published two articles in the Journal of Management, or JOM, which is one of the premier journals in management. Considering some management scholars go their entire careers without a publication in JOM, having two articles in this journal in the second year of her appointment is quite an accomplishment. She has a third article accepted for publication, which is forthcoming this year. Since joining the CBA, she has been assigned to teach four different courses, including helping the Center for Principled Business develop and teach a new course focused on the role of business in society. She has also taken the lead on improving outreach to students in organizational management and has coordinated several events in conjunction with that role. All of that simply provides context for how impressive her research achievements have been. All in all, Dr. Loncarich is performing extremely well in all aspects of her role, including research which is the focus of this award. Dr. Loncarich and her accomplishments are exceptional, particularly at this stage in her academic career."

Brooke Beyer, associate professor of accountingis the recipient of the inaugural SPS — formerly known as Steel and Pipe Supply — Graduate Faculty Award. His nomination states, "Dr. Beyer has demonstrated significant contributions to the CBA graduate program in curriculum development, teaching, and service. He transformed the Accounting Analytics graduate course to focus on applying current data analytics software to the different areas of accounting and incorporated discussions of relevant technology-related issues. His student evaluation scores and comments clearly testify to the quality of his instruction and mentorship to Master of Accountancy students. He has presented at various graduate student events on data analytics over the past year including the Master of Accountancy orientation, a Professional Master of Business Administration Workshop, the CBA graduate program professional workshop series, and the CBA Graduate Studies Advisory Council. In addition, Dr. Beyer created the annual Accounting and Technology Conference to provide continuing professional education to certified accounting professionals. This two-day event had approximately 100 attendees in 2022. Dr. Beyer's commitment to the CBA graduate program demonstrates his concern for the success of our graduate students."

"I appreciate the CBA faculty, staff and students for participating in the nomination process for the spring faculty and staff awards," Gwinner said. "I wholeheartedly concur with the committee’s recommendations. The committee always has difficult decisions to make from an outstanding pool of excellently qualified nominees. A special thank you goes to the CBA Awards and Recognition Committee for their service to the award selection process: M. K. Kim, committee chair, Suzy Auten, Kim Charland, Jihoon Cho and Kate Wilkinson. I also want to thank Bente Janda for her hard work in coordinating the college awards each semester."
