Search begins for two government relations positions

Submitted by Office of the President

In addition to the national search announced for the vice president for communications and marketing, the Office of the President has appointed a search committee to lead the search for two additional open roles:

  • Executive director of government relations.
  • Associate director of government relations.

The executive director works with university leadership to develop federal and state legislative priorities and advocacy strategies; monitors legislative issues; educates elected officials about Kansas State University's needs, strengths and opportunities; and regularly interacts with legislators, staff and key stakeholders to strengthen relationships and partnerships. The executive director of government relations for K-State reports to the senior vice president for executive affairs, university engagement and partnerships, and chief of staff.

The associate director connects with state and federal officials to advocate and generate support favorable to the interests of K-State. The incumbent works with university leadership to develop a comprehensive federal government relations strategy and agenda and serves as a major conduit for communications between the university, congressional district offices and legislators. The associate director of government relations coordinates with the university's executive director of government relations and reports to the senior vice president for executive affairs, university engagement and partnerships, and chief of staff.

The searches are chaired by Ethan Erickson, vice president for administration and finance. Inquiries, nominations and applications will be treated confidentially. For full consideration, application materials must be received by Tuesday, April 4. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and should include a cover letter and curriculum vita or resume. Application materials should be submitted using the university’s candidate portal:

The full position description, including the required qualifications, may be found on the president's website. Interviews will take place in mid-to-late April.
