Advisor Forum presents January Charlie Award

Submitted by Beth Stuewe

The K-State Advisor Forum announces that Kebera "Kebby" Underwood, academic advisor at K-State Salina, has been selected for the January Charlie award.

Underwood was nominated for this award by her colleagues for the outstanding work she does for her students, both inside and outside of her office.

Her nominators write:

"She takes time to know each of her students on a personal level to better understand their goals and career aspirations. Kebby is always thinking outside of the box for creative solutions for students' challenges. She is never one to look for praise in her work. Her internal praise comes at graduation time when she celebrates with her students.

"Kebby is constantly encouraging her students to look at the bigger picture when faced with barriers. She is an amazing advocate for all students, not just her own. Kebby is always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She has stepped in to assist the front office during medical leaves. She works with faculty to give suggestions on curriculum updates. She has also volunteered time with the social work students for role-playing activities to strengthen their experience. Her service has hands down resulted in students reporting time and time again that they feel more confident in their own abilities prior to graduation and that they felt they understood how to handle a tough situation as a result of a scenario they practiced at K-State.

"Kebby is a shining star during difficult times. She is always someone you can depend on and lift your spirits up. It is an honor to call her a colleague."

The K-State Advisor Forum thanks Underwood for the work she has done for students and advisors and congratulates her on this award.
