Sign up for training during Records and Information Management Month

Submitted by Cailin Riley

April is Records and Information Management Month.

April is Records and Information Management Month. This campaign is dedicated to informing professionals about the importance of securing, managing and organizing sensitive work information online. Records management topics covered throughout the month will include:

  • How to identify records and non-records.
  • The new Use of University Mobile Devices, Personal Devices and Accounts Policy.
  • Email records management FAQ.
  • The role that archives can play in preserving your department history and cleaning up your storage spaces.

Knowing how to properly secure your records provides transparency and accountability. It also shows evidence of all transactions and can help support future decisions by showing what has worked and what has not.

Due to increased requests for records management guidance across campus, Ryan Leimkuehler, university records manager at K-State Libraries, will host several Records Management 101 training sessions via Zoom throughout the month. Participants will learn best practices for records management, new data storage guidelines and email record management guidelines. They also will learn how to implement the university’s policy concerning personal mobile devices and accounts.

Upcoming training sessions:

  • April 9: Noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • April 15: 10-11:30 a.m.
  • April 21: 2-3:30 p.m.
  • April 26: 11:30-1 p.m.

Faculty and staff can sign up to attend the training sessions through HRIS self-service. More information including registration details are available on the Libraries' event webpage. Additional information and best practices can be found on the K-State records management webpage.

If you are interested in learning more about how to secure and organize your work information online, Leimkuehler offers training sessions for individuals and groups. He also offers training sessions on how to clean up shared drive spaces. If you are interested in setting up a training or have questions, please contact Leimkuehler at rleimkue@k-state.edu.
