Fall term syllabi statements
Dear deans, department heads, faculty and graduate teaching assistants:
As we begin preparations for the start of the 2020-2021 academic year, please be sure to review the information about course syllabi. Remember to include the mandatory statements in your fall course syllabi, and please consider including suggested optional statements if they apply to your course. The website also includes a link to a syllabi template for online courses.
Please note there have been revisions to the syllabus statements website. These include the new mandatory statement regarding the wearing of face coverings and an optional statement on mental health.
As you plan, remember that the academic calendar has been shifted for the fall semester, with a start date of Aug. 17 and any on-campus activity ending on Nov. 20. The two weeks following Thanksgiving will be online only, which includes prep week and finals week.
Please make sure your final exam schedule is updated to reflect the fall 2020 exam schedule. As a reminder, final exams for the fall semester will be online only, similar to the spring 2020 semester. If a synchronous exam is scheduled, it should fit within the appropriate time in the final exam schedule. Alternative final exam formats are once again acceptable, as they were in the spring 2020 semester.
All faculty, instructors and graduate teaching assistants should refer to section F70-73 of the University Handbook to make sure they are in compliance with the final exam policy.
We ask you to pay close attention to the prep week rule that no examination — unit or final — may be scheduled seven calendar days prior to the first scheduled day of semester examinations.
Please contact our office at 785-532-6439 or firstname.lastname@example.org, if you have any questions.
We wish you a very successful and productive 2020-21 academic year.
