Black Faculty and Staff Alliance continues campuswide book club
It's not too late to join the Black Faculty and Staff Alliance in its campuswide book club. Administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members can join the alliance as they continue to explore "Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America" by Ibram Kendi. In 2016, Kendi won the National Book Award for Nonfiction.
The group will cover section three at its next gathering from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, or during a condensed version from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. Both meetings will take place in 301 Calvin Hall.
The Black Faculty and Staff Alliance began the book club, to answer the question of what's next after the universitywide KSUnite kickoff. The group chose to answer the call by hosting a thought-provoking and reflective dialogue around the history of racist ideas.
"Since February 2018, we have met with various individuals across campus and in the community and it has been a true pleasure to get to know everyone," said Jessica Elmore, associate director of diversity programs for the K-State Alumni Association. "This book has provided new friendships for me personally and I get so much joy when I see individuals from the book club around campus."
