Ebony Theatre hosts inaugural 'First Friday' today

Submitted by Jennifer Vellenga

Ebony Theatre will host its inaugural "First Friday" from 9-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the Purple Masque Theatre lobby in West Memorial Stadium.

This new monthly arts-infused social gathering gives a variety of performers a chance to share their work while attendees gather for conversation and refreshments. Each month, a multicultural student organization also will be honored for its work on campus.

Daijah Porchia, senior in American ethnic studies, will emcee, honoring the National Society of Black Engineers.

Featured performers will include the Wakim Jazz Trio; Zanaiya Peebles, vocalist; Ericka Woods, dancer; the Flint Hills Playback Theatre Company; and a screening of Wildcat Cuts' "The Taste of Vengeance," directed by Safiya Woodard. All are welcome.

Mark your calendars for the next First Friday from 6-7 p.m. Feb. 2, 2018, before the 7:30 p.m. performance of "Not Without Laughter" by Syl Jones, based on the novel by Langston Hughes.
