UFM Community Learning Center recognized with 2016 Nonprofit Service Award

Submitted by Kayla Savage

UFM Community Learning Center, part of Kansas State University Global Campus, recently received the 2016 Nonprofit Service Award presented by the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation. The award was presented the foundation's awards ceremony March 28 in Manhattan. Linda Teener, executive director, accepted the award on behalf of the organization. Teener has led the organization for 26 years.

"We were very pleased that UFM was recognized in this way," Teener said. "UFM is a diverse program serving people of all ages with many diverse projects to meet local needs. Last year UFM served over 17,000 persons from our area."

The award recognizes UFM's outstanding service and dedication to the Manhattan community. UFM Community Learning Center has provided learning opportunities for the Kansas State University and Manhattan community since 1968.

UFM was started in 1968 by a group of K-State students and faculty as a way to bridge communication between the campus community and the Manhattan community. Based on the philosophy that everyone can learn and everyone can teach, UFM provides opportunities for lifelong learning and personal development. UFM serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and as a catalyst for new programs and services that enhance the quality of life for all.
