CNN political contributor Margaret Hoover and political columnist John Avlon will present a Landon Lecture at 7 p.m. Friday in McCain Auditorium.

Avlon is the author of "Independent Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics" and "Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America." He won the National Society of Newspaper Columnists' award for best online column in 2012. Avlon was the former speechwriter for New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Hoover also is the author of "American Individualism: How A New Generation of Conservatives Can Save the Republican Party." Hoover was part of the George W. The Landon Lecture Series is one of the nation's most prestigious and well-known lectures. Several times a year, global leaders share insight on the Landon Lecture stage. Inaugurated in 1966 by former K-State President James A. McCain, the lecture series is a tribute to the late Alfred M. Landon, a former Kansas governor and distinguished political leader. Speakers have included current and former U.S. presidents, world leaders, Supreme Court justices, CEOs and many other prominent figures.
