Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Francis Gary Powers Jr. is presenting "The U-2 Incident and the Cold War" at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the K-State Alumni Center. He is the son of the U.S. Air Force pilot who was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960 and held for two years in a Soviet prison.

Powers will speak about the U-2 incident, which he wrote about in his 2003 book "Operation Overflight: A Memoir of the U-2 Incident." Additionally, he served as technical director to the new Steven Spielberg film "Bridge of Spies," which stars Tom Hanks and depicts the U-2 incident.

Powers will sign books at 4 p.m. and a reception will follow at 6 p.m.

Tickets are free, but required. To request tickets, email Brittany Beneke at bmbeneke@k-state.edu. Tickets also are available at Commerce Bank, 727 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, and by emailing Sean Smith with Alliance Realty at sean@goalliancerealty.com

The book lecture is part of the university's Political, Diplomatic and Military Lecture Series.
