Movement Challenge successes

Submitted by Human Capital Services - Benefits

Oct. 10 marked the end of the inaugural movement challenge at Kansas State University. The K-State community definitely got up and got moving! Approximately 650 K-State employees participated and over the course of the challenge traveled three times around the earth.

The challenge was focused on the progress of improved health and well-being of the employees at Kansas State University. We met our goal. The final Movement Challenge eReport indicated that 50 percent of participants will continue to make a change in their physical activity as a direct result of this challenge. How exciting to see our K-State Family committing to live their best.

Several people indicated they have had great success in improving their physical well-being during this past month.

Carol Marden, counseling services, reported, "I lost weight! I am more productive at work because I am more focused when I return to my desk. I have printed off more forms to track my activity progress and plan to continue. I have even gotten my husband off the couch and walk with me. I am taking my very active grandchildren with me on vacation next May and my goal is to be able to keep up with them. Can't wait! Thanks for putting this together!"

Amy Perry, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, was excited about the timing of the challenge, "This challenge came along at the perfect time for me. It got me motivated to start putting healthy habits in place that I had been putting off for a while. It has made me aware that I need to find ways throughout each day to get as much deliberate, as well as incidental, exercise as possible."

Overall, participants in the movement challenge reported increases in their physical activity over the course of this challenge.

And now, for the final results...

The movement talent champion is Facilities — Car Pool.
