K-State KNEA-SP upcoming professional development

Submitted by Amanda Braun

K-State KNEA-SP meeting

K-State's Kansas National Education Association student program will have its second "Ed Talk" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in 012 Bluemont Hall. This month's topic will be Teacher Licensure and Evaluations. Don't miss how changes in the Legislature will affect how you get licensed and evaluated and what you can do.

Don't forget each meeting counts as an hour of professional development and some lucky attendees will win prizes.

If you ordered a T-shirt, we will distribute them at 6:30 p.m. in 021 Bluemont Hall and then will take a picture for the K-State yearbook. Members are invited to be a part of the yearbook photo even if they did not order a shirt. We have extras and we still want you to be represented in our organization.

The regional Konza UniServ chapter is hosting a workshop for preservice teachers and teachers in their first five years of teaching from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Manhattan Area Technical College, 3136 Dickens Ave. This is an opportunity for members to earn free professional development and lunch. Nonmembers can pay $20 to attend, and if you join that day you will receive a discount. You also will get the chance to network with new teachers. Please register for this event by Nov. 2.

There also will be a sign-up to attend the Kansas National Education Association student program Fall RA in Salina from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon Nov. 13-14. The weekend event will provide dinner, breakfast, lunch, professional development hours, fun and rewarding experiences with fellow future educators. Don't miss out. If you cannot attend the Oct. 20 meeting and still want to go to this event, please email ajbraun@k-state.edu.

Join the Kansas National Education Association student program. Membership is $20 a year and gives members six seminars and countless opportunities to volunteer and grow in your education — not to mention a $1 million liability for student teaching, which is mandatory.

Please email me if you have any questions about how you can join KNEA-SP or about any of our opportunities. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter @KStateKNEASP, join us on OrgSync, check out our website or attend our meetings — Oct. 20; Nov. 17; Feb. 16, 2016; March 8, 2016; and April 19, 2016, to learn more about the opportunities that KNEA-SP provides for you.

Sincerely,
Amanda Braun
