K-State updates international travel policy to strengthen safety and compliance
Kansas State University recognizes the need, benefits and opportunities for employees and students who travel and conduct activities abroad on official university business. To enhance their international travel safety and establish requirements that must be followed during university-sponsored travel, PPM Chapter 3120: International Travel and Activities policy has been updated.
University-sponsored travel is now prohibited to countries that are under a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory issued by the U.S. Department of State. Travelers who believe their trip is essential to one of the Level 4 countries may request an exception by submitting a petition to Provost and Executive Vice President Jesse Mendez through the International Travel Registration form.
The updated policy also prohibits students and employees from taking university-owned devices, such as laptops, tablets and cellphones, to sanctioned or high-risk countries, even when traveling for personal reasons. A list of sanctioned or high-risk countries is available on the Office of Research Integrity, Compliance and Security website. K-State loaner laptops are permitted. To request a loaner device from the Division of Information Technology, call (785) 532-4918 or email itcheckout@k-state.edu.
All travelers participating in university-sponsored international travel or with university-owned devices must complete an export control review before departure. This review helps ensure compliance with institutional regulations and federal laws governing the transfer of research, data and technology across borders.
