Join Ebony Theatre Sept. 27 for the first meeting of fall

Submitted by Jerry Jay Cranford

Ebony Theatre was formed in 1972 to produce and champion Black playwrights with full productions and stage readings. This welcoming meeting will take at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the Morris Family Multicultural Center. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The evening will include a circle script reading and discussion of the recent 2021 Yale Drama Award winner, "Apologies to Lorraine Hansberry (You Too August Wilson)." Playwright Rachel Lynett will provide a taped message for Ebony Theatre about the play and her work. This script will be the first Ebony Theatre production of the 2021-22 season and will be performed as a script-in-hand stage reading on Oct. 21 and 22. The guest director will be Damron Armstrong, artistic producing director of the Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City. Those present at this meeting will be eligible for roles with rehearsals taking place from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 14-20.

In early spring, Ebony will co-produce the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Sweat" by Lynn Nottage as part of the K-State Theatre Mainstage season. It will be directed by guest director Egla Hassan whose work has been featured across the country. More information will be shared at the meeting.

If you're curious about any aspect of theatre — performance, tech, design, management — please join us for food, drinks, conversation and a great play. See you Sept. 27.
