Student chapter wins excellence award from the American Concrete Institute

Submitted by Mary Rankin

The Kansas State University student chapter of the American Concrete Institute, or ACI, has been named a 2020 ACI Excellent University, one of 33 universities worldwide and one of seven in the United States so designated.

A total of 99 universities around the world received recognition as a 2020 Excellent or Outstanding University. The ACI Award for University Student Activities identifies universities that qualify for excellent or outstanding status, based on points received for their participation in select ACI-related activities and programs.

Universities earning 12 or more points are recognized with the Excellent University Award, whereas universities earning six to 11 points are recognized with the Outstanding University Award. Thirty-three universities received excellent status while 66 received outstanding status.

This is the second consecutive year the chapter from K-State has received this award. Faculty advisers are Kimberly Kramer, professor and GE Johnson Construction Science chair, and Jongchul Song, associate professor and D. Craig and Dalene D. Nelson Cornerstone teaching scholar, both from the GE Johnson Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering.

ACI University Award winners received recognition during the 2021 ACI Virtual Concrete Convention March 28-April 1. In addition, each university is provided a digital and printed banner to display during campus events. ACI currently has more than 15,000 student members and more than 250 student chapters around the world.
