A closer look at CASE: COVID-19 communications

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The COVID-19 pandemic changed so much in our daily lives throughout the past year. Yet Kansas State University continued its award-winning communications strategies and efforts to keep our campus and related communities informed.

Among the 42 total awards that Kansas State University received for creative work, three awards were for work directly related to COVID-19 communications. Additionally, COVID-related campaigns, #kstatestrong and Every Wildcat a Wellcat, received a total of nine awards.

CASE award judges provided the following feedback on the awards:

Gold — K-State Alumni Association's summer 2020 issue of K-Stater magazine on COVID-19 in the magazine special issue category.

From the judges: “A true special issue focus with a great cross-section of stories and angles. It was touching to see the response of the alumni after seeing what campus looks like when no one is there. This piece simultaneously illustrates what's happening (COVID response, awards, etc.) and what's not happening (empty classrooms, almost empty streets and parking garages). Took the classic recipe for an alumni magazine and turned it into a historical date stamp, in a way. The campus imagery was fantastic in evoking feels.

Bronze — K-State COVID-19 website in the digital communications-websites micro-sites category.

From the judges: “An incredible amount of work went into this project. The content is so incredibly rich that you could be on the site for hours. Loved the 'Every Wildcat a Wellcat' video. Loved that you are updating infection rates and cases on a regular basis. The opening page is simple and easy to navigate. The site is very responsive on desktop and mobile. The site is nicely written and organized as well as leaning on branding for graphic design.

Bronze — KSU Foundation Innovation & Inspiration campaign finale in the special events pivot category.

From the judges: “Seems as though the engagement on these videos is a highlight. The production quality of the videos is the win for this submission.”
