Site unveiling ceremony today for Morris Family Multicultural Student Center

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The K-State community is invited to attend the site unveiling ceremony for the future home of the Morris Family Multicultural Student Center at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29.

The event will be staged from the sidewalk just outside the east doors of the K-State Student Union, adjacent to the roundabout.

The ceremony will include the unveiling of a construction site sign and general information about the new facility. Speakers at the event will include Richard Myers, president; Jansen Penny, student body president; members of the Multicultural Center Project Action Team; Adrian Rodriguez, associate vice president for student life of diversity and multicultural student affairs; and more.

The K-State Alumni Association also will present a check representing proceeds for the center from the 2018 Homecoming 5K race.

The center is a privately funded campus project in partnership with the KSU Foundation. It will include three floors totaling more than 13,000 gross square feet in a free-standing structure with lower-level connection to the K-State Student Union. The center will provide student meeting rooms, huddle areas, a community kitchen and offices.

Partnering firms include Hollis+Miller Architects, Kansas City, Missouri; McCownGordon Construction, Manhattan; and Smith and Boucher Engineers, Olathe.

Campus contacts include Adrian Rodriguez, project student and staff committee; Jack Carlson, project manager; Ryan Swanson, university architect; and John Morris and Greg Lohrentz, KSU Foundation.
