6-3 Making space in your life
Making space in your life requires rearranging how you spend time. Activities that are high value and low time commitment can be more easily retained. The opposite is true as well. The difficult choice is high value and high time commitment. Deciding whether to continue the activity after becoming a father depends on how critical it is and the extent of time required. Having a partnership with the baby’s mother means fairness is important. For every activity you want to retain, there is an implication that you support the mother’s choices as well. You cannot form a relationship with a child and be the father the child needs if you are traveling the world doing mountain climbing for personal fulfillment.

But there can be pieces of your life that sustain you personally that you can maintain. You don’t have to give everything up.
