Postdoc Appreciation Week, September 18-22, 2017

Join us to celebrate K-State postdocs, to learn new skills, and to find community during National Postdoc Appreciation Week.

Monday, September 18: Postdoc Appreciation Week Kickoff and Networking Lunch

11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., International Student Center 
K-State postdocs and K-State Postdoc Association mentors are invited to enjoy lunch and conversation. Peter Dorhout, vice president for research and professor of chemistry, will attend. Sandwich lunch and drinks provided. 

Tuesday, September 19: Professional Development

3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Union Wildcat Chamber (formerly Little Theater)
Guest speakers Jana Fallin, director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and professor of music education; David Poole, professor of exercise physiology; and Zelia Wiley, interim associate provost for diversity, will lead a faculty application package workshop highlighting how to write a teaching philosophy, research statement, and diversity statement. Refreshments provided. Thanks to the Graduate Student Council for co-sponsoring this event.

Wednesday, September 20: Science Communication Workshop

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., NICKS/ICCM Conference Room P223 Mosier Hall
Sarah Hancock, communications coordinator with the Office of the Vice President for Research, will help participants build science communication skills. Learn why researchers should engage with non-expert audiences, explore strategies to ensure effective communication, and practice delivering messages in large and small groups. 

Thursday, September 21: Poster and Research Presentation

3:00 to 5:00 p.m., K-State Alumni Center Banquet Room
Network with postdocs, graduate students, and faculty and showcase your current research as a poster. Practice your presentation skills by signing up to be one of four to five speakers who will deliver 10-minute oral presentations.

Friday, September 22: Ice Cream Social

3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Alumni Center, Johnson Terrace (outside)
Celebrate the end of the week with a delicious ice cream social open to postdocs and their families. A special surprise guest will be in attendance! (Hint: he has a large, furry head, and he loves K-State!)
