K-State Gardens organizes bus trip

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

MANHATTAN -- Knowing spring in Kansas is one of the most colorful seasons, the Friends of the Kansas State University Gardens has planned a bus tour Thursday, April 11, to the Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine and the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston.

"We will see thousands of blooming tulips at the century-old Bartlett Arboretum," said tour organizer Sharon Snyder. "Bartlett is home to massive cypress, oaks and champion Japanese maples."

She said the Dyck Arboretum strives to educate the public about the benefits of a prairie garden utilizing native and adaptable plants for the landscape.

The bus departs from Manhattan in the morning and returns at 6 p.m. A lunch stop between garden tours is planned at Luciano's Italian Restaurant in Mulvane.

The cost of the tour is $50 for the round-trip transportation and entrance fees. The cost of the buffet lunch is extra.

Individuals interested in going on the trip should make reservations and payment by March 28 by contacting Anne Springer at 785-532-1442 between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Payment is made to the Friends of the K-State Gardens. For more information, contact the group's secretary, Tim Lindemuth, at 785-776-5603.
