David Simmons Wood, instructor of music and director of the early music ensembles in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, has been named programs director for Early Music America beginning Jan. 1, 2021.

Wood has served as special projects manager for Early Music America since 2015. In his new capacity as programs director, he will oversee performing festivals, conferences, web, email and social media marketing, and programming focused on higher education, diversity and wellness.

Early Music America is the North American service organization for those who find joy, meaning and purpose in studying and experiencing historically informed performance and early music. For more than 35 years, the organization has enriched the field of early music in North America by developing and supporting interest in the music of the past, so that it informs and shapes our lives today. The breadth of Early Music America's membership — including professional performers, students, educators, ensembles, presenters, instrument makers, amateur musicians, philanthropists and many more — has made it an important advocate for early music throughout North America. Through its membership publications and activities, Early Music America supports the performance and study of early music and promotes public understanding of its potential impact on people and communities coast-to-coast.

Faculty in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance have received Grammy Awards and nominations, and Emmy Awards; produced recordings on international and national CD labels and published books and journal articles with international and national publishing houses and professional organizations; and performed and presented research in every continent in the world — except Antarctica. The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is a part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Visit the school's website to learn more about music, theatre and dance at K-State.
