Fall 2020 deadline for security studies master's and doctoral program

Submitted by Melissa Janulis

The fall deadline for master's and doctoral applications for K-State's security studies program is Aug. 3.

Civil wars, terrorism, human rights, and military intervention — there is no doubt that the issues facing our world today are extensive and complex. In the security studies program, students explore these challenges in a uniquely diverse environment, where soldiers from Fort Leavenworth's Command and General Staff College and civilians have the opportunity to learn from each other. Study under an award-winning faculty with expertise ranging from insurgency, human rights, military alliances and security issues in Africa, East Asia and the Middle East. Graduates will obtain a strong academic foundation that prepares them for national or international work in the field or in the classroom.

The security studies program is an interdisciplinary program that blends history and political science courses — among other disciplines — to offer master's and doctoral degrees for students interested in national security, international affairs, world politics, and transnational problems. It boasts well-published faculty and an international student body. Students range from recent graduates of traditional undergraduate programs to field grade officers in the U.S. military. The diversity of experience among our students is one of its key strengths. Most students plan to use their degrees for professional careers in international affairs.
