Highlights from the April 9 Faculty Senate meeting

Guest: Senator Sarah Barrett provided an informational report to her fellow senators regarding the Cats' Cupboard food pantry.

Standing committee and Student Senate reports:

  • Academic Affairs: A draft was shared with senators related to a universitywide policy for concurrent Bachelor of Science/Master of Science degrees. This is not approved yet and if there are questions or comments, please send those to your representative on the committee. All were reminded of the need to be conscience of not creating courses that are duplicative to other courses in existence.
  • Faculty Affairs: Overall revisions to the University Handbook, Section K were approved. They continue to meet jointly with Professional Staff Affairs to discuss expanding various benefits to term employees.
  • Professional Staff Affairs: They continue to meet jointly with Faculty Affairs to discuss representation and benefits for term unclassified professional employees. Have also met with Human Capital Services and the budget office on this topic.
  • Student Senate: Elections are complete and transition is occurring. A report from the Tuition and Fees Strategies committee was provided.
  • Technology, FSCOT: The committee has begun on many items for their spring docket including reviewing the use and disuse of office phones; Office 365 updates; shared governance related to the IT strategic plan; clickers; and Duo two-factor authentication rollout.
  • University Planning, FSCOUP: The committee continues to discuss budget transition to a hybrid model as it progresses into the next phase, asking questions of deans and next will be service centers. They discussed projects being worked on from the City/University fund. Much of those funds are tied up with the North Campus Corridor improvement.

Announcements

  • The monthly KBOR meeting report was provided by President Wood.
  • A list of newly elected or re-elected Faculty Senators was shared.
  • The annual faculty and professional staff retiree ceremony will be held on April 16 at 4 p.m., in the K-State Alumni Center.

Open discussion period

  • The true cost of interlibrary loans was discussed and the needs of the library.
