Monday Marketing Minute: Augmented reality

Submitted by Jeff Morris

Every day, new technology is introduced that gives communicators new ways to share information. Augmented reality blends digital content into our real world and physical lives.

The Division of Communications and Marketing has partnered with Metaio, an augmented reality company, to give users a unique experience. Using an app, DCM creative services staff has developed an augmented reality experience where a 3-D Willie the Wildcat performs the K-S-U chant for fans who hover their smartphone or tablet over a Powercat. In addition, K-State's Office of Admissions has included a similar feature in its recruitment package that will play videos on a smartphone or tablet highlighting campus housing, rec services and other student life topics.

The possibilities for this technology are endless for those of us who can't wait to use new techniques to share our purple pride with current and prospective students, parents, alumni and fans.
