Submitted by Kelsey Peterson

The inaugural Graduate Student Awards and Recognition Reception honored more than 100 graduate students and faculty members for achievements and accomplishments to their colleges and departments.

Extraordinary achievements of K-State graduate students were recognized by the Graduate Student Council, the Graduate School and university administrators at this Graduate Student Council leaders and travel award winners, research forum and teaching award winners, K-State Alumni Association award winners, Sarachek award winners and the Graduate Student Council's Professional Development program participants. Each college acknowledged their top students and faculty members who were selected for their outstanding accomplishments from this academic year or their contributions as graduate faculty members.

"The graduate students and faculty at K-State work diligently in their teaching, research and service roles, and the recognition of their hard work was well deserved," said Amanda Fairbanks, Graduate Student Council president. "The Graduate Student Council looks forward to continuing the recognition of even more achievements of our outstanding students and faculty in the future. We would also like to thank President Schulz for helping to sponsor the event. His continued support of graduate students at K-State is greatly appreciated."

"This event provided a great opportunity to recognize the graduate students for their numerous accomplishments as students and their contributions as graduate assistants to K-State’s missions of teaching, research/scholarship, and outreach,” said Carol Shanklin, dean of the Graduate School.

The reception was hosted by the Graduate Student Council and the Graduate School, and was supported by a contribution from President Schulz.
