Personnel changes in Data, Assessment and Institutional Research

Submitted by Bin Ning

As a result of the recent organizational changes under the overall framework of building Operational Excellence for a next-generation land-grant university, the Office of Data, Assessment and Institutional Research, or DAIR, will be able to provide more expansive services in data management, analytics and business intelligence, or BI, tool development to our university communities and beyond. Several personnel changes are involved in creating a new data-informed culture and office realignment work, including:

Bin Ning serves as the associate provost of institutional research and K-State's inaugural chief data officer. As chief data officer, Ning oversees enterprise data management, governance, content and use of university enterprise data systems related to official reporting, data analytics and business intelligence tool development. He also serves as the steward of the institutional data warehouses and oversees the development and implementation of the institutional data policy. Ning came to K-State in 2019 from Eastern Michigan University.

Reena Khosla serves as the director of the Enterprise Data Warehouse. She leads a team of highly technical data architects and ETL developers that focus on designing, developing and enhancing our current and new enterprise data warehouse. Khosla joined K-State in 2021 from Colorado State University.

Chris Urban, who began his service to K-State in 2005, serves as the director of BI and Analytics. Since 2019, Urban assumed increasingly broader responsibilities and services to data users across the university. He leads a team of BI developers and analysts who develop BI reporting, tools and trainings and conduct focused data analyses and modeling.

John Letourneau, a highly experienced data architect, joins our Data Warehouse team. Letourneau has extensive experience with K-State's KSIS and HRIS systems and the SQL data mart. His knowledge and work will significantly boost the team's capacity, support project transition, provide training to new team members, enhance the collaboration between DAIR and Information Technology, and make our data warehouse team into an efficient and nimble data management group for the university.

Nicole Hamler and Shannon Currier are now members of the BI and Analytics unit. Their arrival significantly boosts the capacity and scope of services and collaborations with other units. Hamler started working in K-State’s Office of Admissions in 2011. Shannon joined K-State in 2022.
