Public health scholarships available

Submitted by Ellyn Mulcahy

Students wishing to enroll in the Master of Public Health program and be eligible for scholarships starting in fall 2023 or 2024 should apply by July 1, 2023. Interviews are to be scheduled on July 24. Current K-State students are encouraged to apply.

Scholarships are available and made possible through funding from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, which approved a three-year $1,486,217 grant for the Master of Public Health program, "Ready to Serve: Building a Day-1-Ready Public Health Workforce for Kansas and Beyond" in September 2022. The grant allows the program to offer scholarships for tuition, supplies and travel for part-time and full-time students in the Master of Public Health program. Students pursuing a public health graduate certificate in accelerated degree paths such as the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/Master of Public Health degree program and accelerated Bachelor's degree/Master of Public Health program are also eligible. Students must apply and be accepted into the K-State Master of Public Health program to be eligible for these scholarships.

K-State's Master of Public Health program awarded scholarships to 18 public health graduate students who will start the program in the summer and fall 2023 semesters. Scholarships were awarded to two accelerated bachelor's/master's of public health students, four public health graduate certificate students and 12 Master of Public Health students.

The project team includes Ellyn Mulcahy, principal investigator, director of the K-State Master of Public Health program and professor of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology; Susan Rensing, co-principal investigator and teaching associate professor of social transformation studies; Justin Kastner, professor of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology; Kate KuKanich, professor of small animal internal medicine; Elaine Johannes, associate professor of applied human sciences and extension specialist; and Fred Burrack, director of assessment.
