Wood and Program Development Management team receive 2023 Exceptional Achievement Award for Global Campus Staff

Submitted by Jennifer Thornburg

Marla Wood, office specialist III, and the Program Development Management, or PDM, team at Kansas State University Global Campus, were selected as the recipients of the 2023 Exceptional Achievement Award for Global Campus Staff.

This award recognizes the accomplishments of a Global Campus staff member or team who elevates services to stakeholders, improves processes or provides other benefits that advance Global Campus and the university.

"In a year of change, Marla and the Program Development Management team stepped up and continued to make magic happen for our organization," said Karen Pedersen, dean of K-State Global Campus. "I am pleased to honor them for their hard work and dedication to K-State's mission."

In the materials submitted for Wood's nomination, it was noted that "Marla has a wealth of knowledge and a heart for serving others and it showed during the transitional phase of moving business operations functions and processes. She is the definition of a team player by being inclusive and understanding but also always doing her part and willing to step up and help others figure theirs out or cover for them when something has come up that takes priority.”

The Program Development Management unit played an integral role in the successful launch of the K-State Microcredentials initiative that has been led by Global Campus. Each PDM team member actively contributed to multiple working groups. Nearly 100 badges have been issued since Fall 2022. PDM team members have been key contributors and collaborators in the first year of the university microcredentials initiative. In the nomination materials, it was noted that "PDM team members played an instrumental role in developing internal unit processes that guided our efforts throughout the pilot year of the microcredentials initiative, including creation of the badge information form and a proposed Curriculog form that was not used in the pilot phase but that can be adapted for use in beyond the pilot year."
