College of Business Administration faculty selected for awards

Submitted by Ruthie Gergeni

Kansas State University College of Business Administration Dean Kevin Gwinner recently announced the recipients of two faculty awards. Ashley West, assistant professor of accounting, received the Phillips 66 Faculty Award, and Tom Kelemen, assistant professor of management, received the Robert F. Hagans Chair in Business.

Criteria for the awards include strong teaching portfolios and excellence in teaching, as well as significant contributions in their respective fields — publications in top-tier, refereed journals, honors from professional societies, grants, etc.

"The College of Business Administration is grateful to Phillips 66 and their commitment to providing our students the highest levels of teaching excellence," Gwinner said. "The faculty support that we receive from Phillips 66 allows us to reward outstanding instructors such as Dr. Ashley West who engage with our students on a personal level to propel them toward their future success.

"Robert F. Hagans was a 1950 graduate of the College of Business Administration. He was among the most dedicated of alumni and one of the first to establish faculty endowments to support outstanding business educators. Dr. Tom Kelemen is an innovative professor who is committed to preparing our students to achieve their professional goals."

West and Kelemen were selected by a review committee that was composed of College of Business Administration department heads: Hardy Johnson, chair; Brett Wilkinson; Bill Turnley; and Esther Swilley.
